Your Role:

Reporting to the Deputy Harbour Master (Manager Compliance & Planning), you will be one of several Shipping Support Officers within the overall Operations division responsible for providing information, support, advice and guidance to port user enquiries that assist with the safe effective planning & operation of various harbour & port related activities.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Processing applications, liaising with stakeholders, coordinating activities, and drafting documentation to support the planning, administration, and management of marine projects and events
  • Confirming Dangerous Goods (DG) training requirements are met
  • Processing DG notifications, auditing to ensure compliance, and administering notices and fines
  • Assisting in the management of incidents by providing logistical & administrative support
  • Supporting the development, maintenance, and improvement of the Port Marine Management Systems (PMMS) and meeting the administrative obligations under the Port Safety Operating Licence (PSOL)
  • Gathering, analysing, and reporting key performance data
  • Building & maintaining relationships with port stakeholders & users (internal & external) including stevedores, shipping companies, and their agents

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Advanced MS Office (Word & Excel) skills 
  • Well-developed administration skills
  • Previous experience within the Freight | Shipping industry with an understanding of Dangerous Goods regulations 
  • International Maritime Dangerous Goods Qualification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience assessing technical information & interpreting regulations & standards - desirable
  • Previous experience with relevant aspects of Port Operations in a large commercial Port - an advantage
